Dividend Payments
NLNG has paid over USD 18 billion in dividends to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), making it a substantial contributor to the country’s revenue.
Tax Contributions
As a responsible corporate citizen, NLNG has contributed around USD 9 billion in taxes, supporting the economic well-being of Nigeria and the states in which it operates.
Feedgas Payments
NLNG has made feedgas payments to the Federal Government of Nigeria, through NNPC, totaling approximately USD 15 billion since inception.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
The company has attracted significant FDI, with assets valued at around USD 17.5 billion. This includes 51% owned by international oil companies and 49% by the Nigerian government through NNPC.
Contribution to GDP
Since 2008, NLNG has contributed approximately 4% of Nigeria’s annual GDP. With the rebasing of GDP in 2014, NLNG’s contribution is estimated at about 1%.
Job Creation
At its construction peak, NLNG provided over 12,000 jobs, while its sub-contractors employed more than 18,000 Nigerians in technical roles. With the construction of Train 7, an additional 12,000 direct jobs will be created.
Local Content Development
NLNG is committed to developing Nigerian contractors and vendors through initiatives like the Finima Legacy Project, which has empowered indigenous contractors and enhanced local vendor capabilities. / Learn More
Reducing Environmental Hazards
By utilizing gas that would otherwise be flared, NLNG has helped reduce gas flaring in Nigeria from 65% to about 20%, contributing significantly to environmental preservation. Additionally, its domestic LPG supply programme has promoted cleaner energy use, improving respiratory health and reducing tree felling for fuel.
Deepening the Domestic LPG Market
For over a decade, NLNG’s intervention through the NLNG DLPG Scheme has ensured a steady supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to the domestic market, driving growth in the LPG value chain and making cooking gas more accessible and affordable.
Nigerianisation
NLNG successfully Nigerianised its workforce by 2012. The company now boasts a 100% Nigerian senior management team and 95% Nigerian staff, contributing significantly to reducing unemployment in the country.
Building Marine Expertise
Since the incorporation of Bonny Gas Transport (BGT) in 1989, NLNG has been instrumental in developing Nigeria’s LNG shipping industry. Through NLNG Ship Management Limited (NSML), NLNG is the largest employer of Nigerian seafarers, training hundreds of sea-going officers, including captains and chief engineers.
Vendor Finance Scheme
Recognizing the challenges of funding in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, NLNG introduced the USD 1 billion NLNG Local Vendors Finance Scheme (NLVFS) in 2013, which increased to USD 1.2 billion in 2017. The scheme helps NLNG-registered vendors gain quicker access to funds at better rates for their business operations.
