Sustainable Futures with NLNG
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Joint Industry Companies (JIC) and Bonny Kingdom, first signed in 1998, laid the foundation for key development projects, such as the Bonny Master Plan, road construction, and utilities like electricity and potable water. Despite the success of these projects, there remained a need for further economic empowerment and sustainable development, leading to the Pan Bonny Sustainable Development Conference in 2013. Following this, a new MOU was signed in 2015 to establish community-led development under the Bonny Kingdom Development Foundation.
This Foundation aims to shift the responsibility for development from external companies to the local community, with ongoing support from NLNG and Shell. The goal is to create long-term sustainable growth through local and international partnerships, development initiatives, and capacity-building.
