NLNG Train 7: Powering the Future of Gas

A Legacy of Growth
and Innovation

Nigeria LNG (NLNG) has been at the forefront of the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, rapidly growing from a two-train plant in 1999 to a six-train facility in just nine years. This achievement cemented NLNG’s reputation as the fastest-growing LNG company in the world.

With over 5,000 LNG cargoes delivered to international buyers, NLNG is recognized
for its world-class reliability and operational excellence. Building on these successes, our sights are now firmly set on the future, focusing on growth and sustainability.

We are fully committed to expanding our
operations with the NLNG Train 7 Project,
which will boost our production capacity
by 35%, increasing from 22 Million Tonnes
Per Annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa. This project
underscores our role as a key player in the
global LNG market and positions Nigeria as
a top-tier supplier of LNG, leveraging its
vast proven gas reserves of 202 trillion
cubic feet (the 9th largest globally).

On 27th December 2019, our shareholders made the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Train 7 Project, with the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract awarded to the SCD JV Consortium, comprising affiliates of Saipem, Chiyoda, and Daewoo, in May 2020.

The Train 7 Project marks a bold new chapter in NLNG’s journey of growth and sustainability, building on our long- standing commitment to innovation, environmental stewardship, and value creation for Nigeria.

The Impact of NLNG Train 7:
Fueling Growth and Development

Train 7 Project:
A Catalyst for the
Oil & Gas Industry

The NLNG Train 7 Project will inject over USD 10 billion into the oil and gas industry, unlocking new opportunities and boosting Nigeria’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) profile.

This investment will drive economic growth, increase government revenue, and diversify the national tax base. The project is also a testament to the confidence international investors have in Nigeria’s energy sector.

A Catalyst for the
Oil & Gas Industry

The construction phase of the Train 7 Project is expected to generate over 12,000 direct jobs, with even more indirect opportunities across various sectors. Upon completion, the project
will further contribute to the diversification of Nigeria’s economy.

Moreover, Train 7 will enhance local engineering and fabrication capacities, fostering homegrown expertise and providing local businesses the
opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country’s energy infrastructure.

Delivering Train 7

Engineering, Procurement,
and Construction

The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phase of Train 7 marks a significant step in NLNG’s expansion journey.Awarded in May 2020 to the SCD JV Consortium, the EPC contract triggered the detailed design and construction phase, with a vision to boost NLNG’s production by 35%. This expansion will further solidify NLNG’s role as a major global LNG supplier.

The EPC journey began in July 2018 with the signing of the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) with two consortia in a competitive process, which ultimately led to the selection of SCD JV as the preferred contractor.

Local Content Commitment:
A Future Built in Nigeria

NLNG has always championed the development of Nigerian Content, even since the construction of its first two trains. With Train 7, we renew this commitment, ensuring that the project creates meaningful opportunities for local businesses and individuals.

In March 2019, NLNG and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) signed off on the Nigerian Content Plan for Train 7, ensuring that significant value is delivered to the Nigerian economy.

The Train 7 Project will contribute more than 12,000 jobs, 55% of which are local engineering man hours. Additionally, over 70,000 tonnes of fabrication materials will be sourced and manufactured within Nigeria, from condensate stabilization units to tanks, pipe racks, and flare systems.

This initiative will ensure that Nigeria builds capacity in engineering, fabrication, logistics, procurement, and more, ensuring that 100% of all installations and construction are carried out by Nigerian businesses.

Train 7:
A Project of National Importance

The Train 7 Project is not just a significant step for NLNG but also a milestone for Nigeria’s economic and industrial development. By embracing and prioritizing local content in our supply chain and operations, we are building a stronger, more resilient national economy.
